Working with designers, engineers, and social scientists at Intel Ireland, I play a role in carrying out Intel’s Digital Health Group research which is ongoing and examines the myriad of ways in which elderly people are growing older and maintaining active, healthy, and independent lives. The research explores a number of key areas including: health, nutrition, mobility, social inclusion, cultural practices, and life history.

Along with designers and engineers at Intel, I have worked with students and academics at the Royal College of Art, Vehicle Design and the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre on issues concerning transport and mobility for socially isolated people. We explored the ways in which such issues impact upon daily life and wellbeing, and how such research can actively contribute to the creative design process of developing interfaces for social connectivity and empowerment.

I also contribute to longitudinal research – continuous long term study - on women’s participation in the global economy with specific focus on home workers and call centre workers. This work is ongoing.
